Gert & Uwe Tobias

Published by Verlag Kettler in 2015, this monograph serves as a comprehensive survey of the collaborative practice of twin brothers Gert and Uwe Tobias. Based in Cologne, the brothers are widely recognized for their distinct approach to woodcut printing, which blends traditional Central European folk motifs with a contemporary, high-contrast modernist aesthetic. The book was developed to document their multidisciplinary output, which spans monumental woodcuts, typewriter drawings, and sculptural installations that often evoke a sense of uncanny, archaic mystery.

The volume features scholarly insight from Fritz Emslander, who examines the twins' unique method of working together to create a singular artistic identity. The design of the book mirrors the intense, layered visual language of the brothers, providing a critical context for how their work challenges the boundaries between high art and decorative tradition. Upon its release, the publication was received as a definitive reference for those tracking the revival of printmaking in the early 21st-century art scene.
