Gert & Uwe Tobias

This monograph was published in 2009 by La Conservera, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, to document the collaborative practice of twin brothers Gert and Uwe Tobias. Based in Cologne, the brothers gained international acclaim for their distinct multidisciplinary approach, which blends traditional woodblock printing with contemporary sensibilities. The book serves as a comprehensive overview of their aesthetic, which often draws from Eastern European folk art and modernist graphic design to create dense, layered, and surreal narratives.

Curated and edited by Oliver Zybok, the volume contextualizes the duo's work within the broader framework of international contemporary art during the late 2000s. The design and production reflect the brothers' own meticulous attention to visual detail, mirroring the stark contrasts and vibrant color palettes typically found in their large-scale prints. Upon its release, the book was received as a definitive resource for scholars and collectors interested in the revival of the woodcut medium as a sophisticated tool for avant-garde expression.
