System of Christian Doctrine, Volume 2

Originally published in the late 19th century as a cornerstone of nineteenth-century German Protestant theology, Isaak A. Dorner's System of Christian Doctrine represents a significant effort to reconcile traditional systematic theology with the modern historical-critical consciousness. Dorner sought to integrate the developments of modern philosophy and science into a traditional framework, emphasizing a christocentric approach to dogmatics that influenced generations of theologians, including Karl Barth.

The 2016 edition from Wipf & Stock Publishers serves as a modern scholarly reprint intended to make this dense, classic text accessible to contemporary students and academics. While the publisher retains the integrity of the original rigorous academic prose, this iteration provides a durable format for institutional and private libraries, ensuring that Dorner’s complex arguments regarding the person and work of Christ remain part of the ongoing theological discourse.
