TOM SAWYER ABROAD; TOM SAWYER, DETECTIVE; AND OTHER STORIES, ETC. ETC. Authorized Edition

Published in 1924 by P. F. Collier & Son Company, this volume reflects the era of the 'Authorized Edition' of Mark Twain's works. Following the author's death in 1910, Collier became the primary distributor of his collected writings, aiming to bring affordable, uniform sets of Twain's literature into the American household. This particular compilation packages two of the author's later, lighter tales alongside shorter works, catering to a public eager for complete literary collections during the post-World War I period.

The aesthetic of this edition is characteristic of the publisher's utilitarian approach to classic literature in the early twentieth century. These books were designed for readability and shelf consistency rather than elaborate artistic innovation, utilizing the straightforward, readable typography that defined Collier's massive distribution efforts. By the 1920s, such volumes were well-received as essential staples for the home library, cementing Twain's legacy as a foundational American author whose shorter, often overlooked stories deserved consistent reprint alongside his major novels.
