Tom Sawyer Abroad Tom Sawyer, Detective and Other Stories Etc., Etc.

This volume belongs to the late-period uniform edition of Mark Twain's works published by P.F. Collier & Son in 1917. Following the success of their earlier sets, Collier sought to provide a comprehensive, standardized collection of Twain’s writings for the growing American middle-class library market. By the time this edition was printed, Twain had passed away, and these works were firmly established as staples of American literature, designed for durability and accessibility rather than as high-end collector's fine press editions.

The collection features the titular works, which were Twain's later attempts to revisit his most famous characters in a satirical, travel-focused narrative style. These stories are often analyzed by scholars as more cynical and experimental than the original Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. While the illustrations and binding styles in these Collier editions were intended to evoke a classic aesthetic, they are best remembered today as the primary way many twentieth-century families first encountered these specific, lesser-known installments of the series.
