Where it came from
Published in 2006 by Bandai Entertainment, this volume serves as a manga-style compilation of the Tomb Raider comic series originally produced by Top Cow Productions. The collection was released during a period when Bandai was actively licensing Western intellectual properties for the Japanese market, seeking to bridge the aesthetic gap between American comic book storytelling and manga-inspired character presentation.
The artwork features the distinct style of Andy Park, who is widely recognized for his long-standing collaboration with Top Cow and his later work as a concept artist for Marvel Studios. Park’s interpretation of Lara Croft emphasized a blend of gritty, high-contrast action sequences and the stylized anatomical proportions typical of late 1990s and early 2000s comic books. The volume was received by fans as a unique curiosity that consolidated episodic stories into a portable format, reflecting the era's peak interest in cross-media adaptations of popular gaming icons.
