Where it came from
Published by Prima Games in 1999, this guide was released during the peak of the original Tomb Raider franchise's cultural impact. As the gaming industry saw a rapid increase in demand for comprehensive walkthroughs, Prima Games positioned itself as a leading authority, producing this book to assist players in navigating the complex environmental puzzles and platforming sequences that defined the early titles in the series.
The guide was authored by David Jon Winding, a contributor who specialized in capturing the technical intricacies of console gaming. The design reflects the utilitarian aesthetic of late 90s strategy guides, utilizing black-and-white screenshots and mapped layouts to provide a clear, step-by-step roadmap for players. It was received as a standard reference tool for fans attempting to master the notoriously difficult navigation mechanics of Lara Croft's early adventures.
