Atacama - Du Corps - Achachilas

Atacama - Du Corps - Achachilas, released under the Accord label, represents a project by composer Marco-Antonio Pérez-Ramirez. This work emerged from a period of exploration in contemporary orchestral composition, seeking to bridge traditional symphonic structures with the evocative, often stark landscape imagery associated with the Atacama region and indigenous Andean themes. The album features the Orchestre National de Montpellier, supported by a diverse group of conductors including Enrique Mazzola and Marco Guidarini, reflecting the collaborative effort required to realize the complex, multi-layered movements of the suite.

The recording process was designed to capture the dynamic interplay between the soloist—notably featuring the violin work of Sylvia Marcovici—and the large-scale orchestral forces. The design and production intent was to create an immersive, atmospheric soundscape that translated cultural and geographical motifs into a rigorous classical format. Upon release, the work was noted for its ambitious scope and its contribution to the niche contemporary music repertoire, finding an audience among listeners interested in the intersection of avant-garde composition and thematic world-music influences.
