Where it came from
Released in 2018 through the independent label Les Productions Hérétiques, Chansons Des Routes Et Des Rivières serves as a notable entry in the discography of Stéphane Blok. The project reflects Blok's long-standing commitment to the French-language chanson tradition, emphasizing lyrical storytelling and a minimalist, acoustic-driven arrangement style. It emerged during a period where Blok continued to cultivate a niche yet dedicated audience interested in poetic folk music that prioritizes narrative depth over commercial production tropes.
The album's aesthetic and conceptual direction are deeply rooted in the introspective songwriting style that defines much of Blok's career. The design and presentation prioritize a stripped-back, authentic feel intended to mirror the nomadic and reflective themes found within the lyrics. Upon its release, the work was received as a contemplative addition to the contemporary chanson landscape, noted primarily by critics and listeners who appreciate the intimate, craft-focused approach to songwriting that Blok consistently pursues.
