Chansons Du Temps Perdu: Liedjes Uit Vervlogen Tijden

Released in 2017 on the Harlekijn label, Chansons Du Temps Perdu: Liedjes Uit Vervlogen Tijden is a collaborative project between singer Gaëtane Bouchez and musician Afke Wijma. The album serves as a curated collection of nostalgic melodies, drawing from a tradition of folk and chanson repertoire that explores themes of memory, passage of time, and cultural heritage. The project emerged from a desire to bridge linguistic and musical gaps, blending French chansons with Dutch interpretations to evoke a sense of shared European history.

The album's design and arrangement emphasize a minimalist, intimate aesthetic, reflecting the reflective nature of the music itself. By focusing on stripped-back instrumentation and expressive vocal delivery, Bouchez and Wijma sought to honor the original emotional intent of these classic compositions while providing a contemporary resonance. Upon its release, the collection was recognized for its archival approach to song-craft, finding an appreciative audience among those interested in the preservation of traditional vocal performance.
