Codex III

Codex III serves as the third installment in a collaborative series between violinist Régis Huby, bassist Bruno Chevillon, and percussionist Michele Rabbia. Released by the French label Abalone Productions in 2021, the project emerged from a long-standing improvisational dialogue between the three musicians, who sought to bridge the gap between contemporary classical structures and experimental jazz. The album reflects their shared interest in acoustic textures blended with subtle electronic processing, aiming to create a soundscape that feels both intimate and expansive.

The design of the Codex series is characterized by a stark, minimalist aesthetic that mirrors the abstract nature of the music contained within. By focusing on the interplay of timbre and silence, the trio intended for the listener to engage with the record as a continuous, evolving narrative rather than a collection of disparate tracks. Upon its release, the project was noted by critics for its sophisticated production and the seamless integration of Huby’s violin work with Chevillon’s rhythmic depth and Rabbia’s intricate, nuanced percussion.
