Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky

Released in 2005 by the French label Le Chant du Monde, this CD serves as a significant introduction to the distinct musical language of Uzbek composer Dmitri Yanov-Yanovsky. The album highlights his role within the contemporary Central Asian avant-garde, a movement characterized by the synthesis of traditional regional influences with rigorous European structural techniques. This recording was crafted to document his chamber works, which are noted for their intricate textures, contemplative pacing, and use of silence.

The design of the release reflects the label's focus on bridging cultural divides through classical music, presenting Yanov-Yanovsky as a composer who bridges the gap between Eastern mysticism and Western formalism. By including this collection in the Le Chant du Monde catalog, the producers aimed to secure a wider audience for a composer previously known primarily within specialized academic and experimental music circles. Upon its release, the disc was met with quiet appreciation by critics who lauded its atmospheric depth and the precise execution of the instrumental arrangements.
