Federico García Lorca / In Memoriam

The 2015 Parlophone release titled Federico García Lorca / In Memoriam serves as a poignant archival compilation honoring the intersection of the poet's literary legacy and his deep involvement with Spanish musical tradition. The collection brings together rare recordings of Lorca himself performing, alongside archival tracks featuring the renowned flamenco dancer and singer La Argentinita, with whom Lorca collaborated on the 1931 album Colección de Canciones Populares Españolas. These recordings capture the vital, folk-rooted essence of the Spanish Civil War era, preserving the artistic spirit of a generation defined by the poet's untimely death.

The modern compilation project highlights the vocal artistry of soprano Victoria de los Angeles, a celebrated interpreter of Spanish song, alongside pianist Miguel Zanetti, who provide a sophisticated bridge between the raw historical documents and classical art song traditions. By pairing Lorca’s own voice and early recordings with professional studio performances, the collection functions as a curated soundscape of Spanish cultural identity. It was released to commemorate the enduring influence of Lorca's work, receiving critical appreciation for its role in maintaining the historical continuity of the Iberian musical canon.
