Where it came from
Feldstudie Göppingen was released in 2017 by the Verlag Kunsthalle Göppingen as a sonic documentation tied to the artistic program of the institution. The project represents a collaborative effort by Ephraim Wegner and Astrid Wegner, serving as an experimental audio exploration that archives the specific acoustic character and industrial soundscape of Göppingen, Germany.
The design of the work reflects a minimalist, conceptual approach consistent with the output of contemporary art institutions. By treating the city’s environmental sounds as field recordings, the artists intended to provide a detached, observational aesthetic experience. Upon its release, the CD was primarily distributed within academic and art-institutional circles, functioning as an archival object that bridges the gap between field recording, sound art, and local history.
