Where it came from
Released in 2002 on the independent label Nanophonica, Gig Gigger Giggest serves as a signature work from the project Cicada. The album emerged during a period of experimentation within electronic and ambient circles, reflecting a transition toward more layered, modular sound design that Nanophonica championed at the turn of the millennium.
The aesthetic of the release, consistent with the minimalist visual identity of the Nanophonica catalog, leans into clinical and precise graphic design. It was intended to mirror the intricate, rhythmic textures found within the audio, receiving modest acclaim from critics who focused on the interplay between organic field recordings and synthesized pulses.
