Where it came from
I Wish I Could Fly was released in 1992 through the London-based independent label Reverb Records. The track was a collaboration between the project DwA and the vocalist Orville, emerging during a period when the UK dance and house music scene was rapidly diversifying its sound by incorporating soul-inflected vocals and atmospheric production elements.
The composition captures the quintessential early 90s aesthetic, blending melodic synth layers with the rhythmic sensibilities of the burgeoning club culture. While it remains a niche piece of the era's discography, the design and production reflect the hands-on, often experimental approach typical of independent dance labels at the time, which prioritized emotive, vocal-led arrangements for both radio airplay and dancefloor utility.
