Where it came from
Introducing Jennie Laws was released in 2008 as a self-produced showcase for the vocalist Jennie Laws. Operating independently, Laws utilized this release to establish a professional calling card, drawing from her background in session work and live performance. The record reflects a synthesis of soul and contemporary R&B aesthetics, aimed at highlighting her vocal versatility to industry professionals and listeners alike.
The production leans into a polished, mid-2000s sonic palette, prioritizing clarity and vocal presence. As an independent, label-free project, the design and distribution were managed directly by Laws, reflecting the era's growing movement of artists bypassing traditional label infrastructure. While the release remains a niche entry in the independent soul discography, it serves as a testament to the DIY spirit of the late 2000s independent music circuit.
