Jacobus Vaet Vol. 3: "Salve Regina" - Geistliche Motetten - Huldigungsmotetten (Sacred Motets - Motets Of Praise)

Released in 2010 by the German label Ars Musici, this recording features the Dufay Ensemble performing works by the sixteenth-century Flemish polyphonist Jacobus Vaet. Vaet served as Kapellmeister to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, and his music is characteristic of the rich, imitative style prevalent in the Habsburg imperial chapel during the mid-Renaissance. The project was intended to illuminate the composer's sophisticated approach to sacred and ceremonial motets, which are often overshadowed by his contemporaries.

The Dufay Ensemble, known for their focus on historical performance practice, approached these motets with an emphasis on clarity of voice and structural balance. By selecting the Salve Regina and various motets of praise, the ensemble highlighted Vaet's ability to weave complex contrapuntal lines that served both liturgical and political functions. The recording was released as part of a broader effort by Ars Musici to document the lesser-known repertoire of the Franco-Flemish school for modern audiences.
