Karl Jenkins:Piano

Released by Decca Records in 2019, Karl Jenkins: Piano marks a notable addition to the discography of the celebrated Welsh composer. Known primarily for his large-scale choral works like The Armed Man, Jenkins sought to strip away the symphonic grandeur of his typical arrangements, revisiting his own iconic melodies in intimate, solo piano renditions. This project serves as a reflective retrospective, distilling decades of composition into a singular, stripped-back format that emphasizes the melodic DNA of his most famous pieces.

The album was designed to capture a more personal and introspective side of the composer's work. By performing the arrangements himself, Jenkins provides a definitive interpretation of how these pieces were originally conceived before they were expanded into orchestral scores. Critics and audiences alike received the record as a calm, meditative counterpoint to the dramatic intensity of his choral output, highlighting his versatility and his enduring ability to create resonant, accessible contemporary classical music.
