Where it came from
Released in 2011 on the Whatness label, this project serves as a conceptual tribute to the German artist Martin Kippenberger. The musicians Oliver Augst, Rüdiger Carl, and Sven-Åke Johansson curated this work to engage with the performative and irreverent spirit characteristic of Kippenberger’s own multimedia practice, bridging the gap between experimental sound art and visual arts history.
The album functions as an auditory exploration of Kippenberger's aesthetic, utilizing avant-garde musical arrangements that mirror the artist's unpredictable and provocative style. As part of a niche experimental catalogue, the release was received primarily within European art-music circles, appreciated for its dedication to capturing the raw, non-conformist energy that defined the late artist's legacy.
