Provenance

Where it came from

Les Plus Beaux Chants Grégoriens was released by Sony Music in 2013 as part of a broader industry trend toward packaging thematic, atmospheric, and historical musical compilations for a modern audience. These collections often sought to distill centuries of liturgical tradition into accessible formats, serving both as meditation aids and as an entry point for listeners curious about early Western music.

The design of this compilation prioritizes a minimalist and reverent aesthetic, consistent with the presentation of sacred music within the Sony catalog. The project does not credit a specific individual composer or contemporary conductor but rather curates existing performances of monophonic, unaccompanied vocal music, aiming to capture the meditative quality of the Benedictine and Cistercian choral traditions that have historically defined Gregorian chant.
