Matthias Zimmermann

Matthias Zimmermann's 2016 self-titled release was issued through the Paris-based label Sound Pellegrino, a platform founded by DJs Orgasmic and Teki Latex. The label was instrumental in the mid-2010s for bridging the gap between club-focused electronic music and more experimental, rhythmically complex sound design. This record represents a pivotal point in Zimmermann's career, showcasing his ability to blend intricate, percussive arrangements with the polished, forward-thinking aesthetic that Sound Pellegrino championed during that era.

The design of the release reflects the label's distinct visual identity, which often prioritized minimalist, high-contrast graphic elements to complement the kinetic nature of the music within. Zimmermann, known for his meticulous production techniques, aimed to create a sonic landscape that felt both organic and mechanical. Upon its release, the work was received by critics as a sophisticated exploration of house and techno hybrids, solidifying his reputation as a producer capable of creating deeply immersive, dance-floor-ready textures that remained structurally unconventional.
