Matthias XXL

Matthias XXL was released in 2022 by RCA as a celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of Matthias Reim’s career-defining hit, Verdammt, ich lieb' dich. The album serves as a retrospective project that reinterprets his most significant tracks with modern production sensibilities, aiming to bridge the gap between his 1990s pop-rock roots and his contemporary sound. Reim, who has maintained a consistent presence in the German Schlager and pop-rock scene for decades, intended this collection to honor the legacy of his discography while appealing to a new generation of listeners.

The album's design and aesthetic focus on a refined, mature presentation of the artist, reflecting his endurance in a notoriously fickle industry. Released during a period of professional resurgence for Reim, the project was well-received by his core audience, who appreciated the updated arrangements and the reflective tone of the tracklist. By revisiting his catalog, Reim cemented his status as a persistent figure in German music, with the collection serving as both a sentimental look back and a statement of continued relevance in the pop landscape.
