Russian Piano Music Series Vol. 3 - Reinhold Glière

Released in 2010 on the Divine Art label, this recording is part of a dedicated series exploring the Russian piano repertoire. The project was helmed by the British pianist Anthony Goldstone, a musician widely respected for his commitment to excavating lesser-known works and complete cycles from the Romantic and early 20th-century traditions. This volume focuses specifically on the piano works of Reinhold Glière, a composer often overshadowed by his contemporaries but pivotal in bridging the gap between late-Russian Romanticism and Soviet-era institutional music.

The design and production of this album reflect Divine Art's focus on academic rigor and archival value. Goldstone sought to present a comprehensive survey of Glière's keyboard output, providing listeners with a nuanced look at a composer who served as a teacher to figures like Prokofiev and Khachaturian. Upon its release, the recording was received by critics as a significant contribution to the discography of Russian piano music, valued primarily for Goldstone’s technical clarity and his dedication to documenting repertoire that remains on the periphery of the standard concert canon.
