The Parker Brothers

The Parker Brothers’ eponymous 2016 release on the French independent label Favorite Recordings emerged from a revivalist movement dedicated to the deep-funk and soul sounds of the 1970s. The project, led by musicians associated with the label's tight-knit scene, was designed to capture the raw, instrumental grit of early analog recordings. By employing vintage production techniques, the creators aimed to replicate the aesthetic of obscure, sought-after library music and rare groove records that have long been staples in the DJ community.

The design of the album reflects the functional, understated visual language of mid-century studio recordings, emphasizing the music's role as a tool for crate-digging connoisseurs. Upon release, the album was received primarily within international funk circles as a faithful homage to the era of cinematic soundtracks and groove-heavy breaks. It is regarded as a quintessential example of modern labels documenting the stylistic nuances of a bygone musical age through authentic composition and period-accurate engineering.
