The Sensational Pete Jolly Gasses Everybody

Originally released in 1970 on the A&M label, The Sensational Pete Jolly Gasses Everybody features the jazz pianist Pete Jolly in a quartet setting, joined by bassist Chuck Berghofer, drummer Nick Ceroli, and percussionist Milt Holland. The album was recorded during a period when Jolly was transitioning into a highly sought-after session musician in Los Angeles, known for his work in film and television soundtracks. The title and the playful, psychedelic-leaning cover art reflect the late-sixties trend of jazz artists blending traditional bop sensibilities with lighter, groovier arrangements intended for a broader commercial audience.

The 2019 release by Solid Records is a high-fidelity reissue, part of a series dedicated to preserving and reintroducing classic jazz titles to contemporary collectors. The project focused on maintaining the integrity of the original analog recordings while updating the physical presentation for modern standards. The album is widely regarded by jazz enthusiasts as a quintessential example of West Coast light jazz, praised for its tight ensemble interplay and Jolly's clean, rhythmic phrasing, cementing his reputation as a master of the melodic jazz piano style.
