Carmen McRae

The 2012 release by Solid Records represents a specific effort within the Japanese reissue market to catalog and preserve the extensive discography of Carmen McRae. Solid Records, a label known for its commitment to high-quality jazz reissues, focused on remastering these classic sessions to introduce McRae’s sophisticated vocal phrasing and nuanced interpretations to a new generation of listeners, ensuring that the legacy of her mid-century studio work remained accessible in a digital format.

The design and production philosophy behind these reissues typically prioritize archival accuracy, often mirroring the original album art while utilizing modern digital transfer techniques to capture the intimacy of McRae’s performances. While these CDs are part of a broader series of Japanese jazz imports, they are highly regarded by collectors for their fidelity and the preservation of original liner notes, which help contextualize McRae’s standing as one of the most influential jazz vocalists of her era.
