The Wailin' Jennys

The Wailin' Jennys’ self-titled debut was released independently in 2002, emerging from the vibrant folk music scene in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Originally brought together by a local guitar shop owner for a one-off performance, the trio of Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Cara Luft resonated so strongly with audiences that they decided to record this EP. It captures a raw, acoustic-driven sound that prioritizes tight, three-part vocal harmonies, which would go on to define their signature style.

The design of this early release reflects its grassroots origins, favoring simplicity and an intimate presentation that highlights the musicianship over commercial polish.
