Where it came from
The Life of Bobo Jenkins was originally recorded in the 1950s and 60s by John 'Bobo' Jenkins, a vital but often overlooked figure in the Detroit blues scene. Jenkins was a songwriter and guitarist who moved to Detroit from Alabama and became known for his hard-driving, electrified sound that bridged the gap between Delta traditions and the emerging urban blues style of the Motor City. His recordings from this era serve as a critical historical document of the regional blues explosion that defined post-war Detroit.
This 2001 release by P-Vine Records, a Japanese label renowned for its meticulous archival work in blues and R&B, served to revitalize interest in Jenkins' legacy. By compiling his rare early singles, the label aimed to provide a definitive retrospective for collectors and historians alike. The release was celebrated by blues enthusiasts for its sonic restoration and for preserving the raw, unvarnished energy that characterized Jenkins' contribution to the American blues canon.
