Where it came from
Released in 2004 under Paul van Dyk’s own Vandit Records label, this installment of The Sessions series was crafted to capture the specific energy of the Ibiza club scene. At the time, van Dyk was at the height of his influence in the trance genre, and the compilation served as a curated sonic representation of his long-standing residencies on the island, aiming to translate the atmosphere of an open-air Mediterranean dance floor into a recorded format.
The album reflects a transitional period in electronic dance music where the high-tempo, euphoric trance sound was beginning to integrate deeper, more progressive elements. The design and track selection were intended to showcase the signature 'Vandit' sound, which focused on melodic complexity and driving rhythms. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by the dance music press, who viewed it as a definitive document of the mid-2000s club culture that dominated Ibiza’s nightlife.
