Waking Dream: The Music Of Greg Hill & Randy Napoleon

Waking Dream represents a collaborative effort between guitarist Randy Napoleon and composer Greg Hill, released under the OA2 Records label in 2025. The project emerged from a long-standing artistic rapport between the two musicians, aiming to capture a contemporary intersection of modern jazz composition and fluid, melodic guitar improvisation. It serves as a testament to their shared exploration of harmonic textures and rhythmic interplay, reflecting the creative evolution of the artists within the current jazz landscape.

The album reflects a deliberate production choice to prioritize clean, acoustic resonance and intimate arrangement, characteristics long associated with the OA2 label's commitment to showcasing nuanced instrumental works. By focusing on Hill's original compositions, Napoleon utilizes his precise technique to navigate complex modal structures while maintaining a lyrical accessibility. Upon release, it was positioned as a significant entry in the 2025 jazz catalogue, noted for its cohesive integration of traditional jazz language and forward-thinking compositional design.
