Where it came from
The 1925 1 Lev coin was minted during the reign of Tsar Boris III, a period characterized by Bulgaria's efforts to stabilize its currency and recover from the economic hardships following the First World War. Struck in cupronickel, this coinage replaced earlier wartime issues and served as a tangible symbol of the state's attempt to restore normalcy and public confidence in the national monetary system.
The design features a classic portrait of Boris III on the obverse, a motif common to the era's monarchical coinage across Europe, intended to project authority and national continuity. The aesthetic is utilitarian yet refined, reflecting the limitations of mid-1920s minting technology while maintaining a formal dignity. It was well received at the time as a dependable circulating currency, though it has since become a staple of numismatic collections focusing on the turbulent interwar history of the Balkans.
