10 Leva (15th Winter Olympic Games)

The 10 Leva coin was minted by the Bulgarian National Bank in 1987 to commemorate the 15th Winter Olympic Games, which were held in Calgary the following year. As part of a larger numismatic series issued by Bulgaria during the 1980s, these commemorative pieces were designed to showcase national pride and participate in the global tradition of Olympic-themed coinage, often favored by the state for international diplomatic gifts and collector outreach.

The design features standard Bulgarian state iconography paired with athletic motifs typical of Olympic commemoratives of the era. The coin was struck at a time when the Bulgarian government utilized its minting capabilities to generate interest among European numismatists. While the coin is well-regarded for its historical connection to the 1988 Calgary Games, it was produced as a mass-issue commemorative and is valued primarily for its thematic significance rather than extreme rarity.
