Where it came from
The 10,000 Dram coin was issued by the Central Bank of Armenia in 2017 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Shushi. This event is a significant landmark in modern Armenian history, marking a strategic victory during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in 1992. The coin was minted to serve as a symbolic piece of national heritage, capturing the historical weight of the event for both collectors and citizens.
The design was executed by Karine Arakelyan, who utilized intricate motifs to convey a sense of strength and commemorative gravity. The obverse typically features state emblems or symbolic references to the region, while the reverse focuses on iconography related to the liberation. As a specialized commemorative issue, it was produced in a limited capacity by the mint, intended primarily for numismatic interest rather than general circulation, and was well-received by those interested in the post-Soviet numismatic tradition.
