10 Euro Cents (2nd map)

The Austrian 10 euro cent coin is part of the first series of euro circulation coinage issued by the Republic of Austria following the country's adoption of the currency in 2002. The design for this denomination features St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, which was selected to represent Austrian cultural heritage. The specific design was executed by artist Josef Kaiser, who aimed to showcase the nation's architectural landmarks on the smaller denominations to provide a sense of history alongside the unified European design.

Beginning in 2007, the European Central Bank introduced a revised common side for euro coins to reflect the expanded membership of the European Union, replacing the original map that showed only the member states as of 2002 with a map of the entire continent. The 2008 Austrian 10 cent coin incorporates this updated design while retaining Kaiser's original national reverse. It serves as a standard unit of currency and is widely circulated across the Eurozone, valued by collectors primarily for its inclusion in sets documenting the shift to the second map design.
