Where it came from
The 2015 Austrian 5 Euro coin commemorating the Austrian Armed Forces, or Bundesheer, was issued by the Austrian Mint to honor the 60th anniversary of the re-establishment of the national military. Minted in copper, this coin serves as part of Austria’s tradition of issuing commemorative currency that reflects significant institutional milestones within the nation's post-war history.
The design, executed by Mint engravers, features a modern artistic interpretation of a soldier in service alongside symbols representing the various branches of the armed forces. It was released both as a standard circulation-quality copper issue and in higher-grade proof versions, receiving appreciation from collectors for its clean, industrial aesthetic and its role as a tactile piece of Austrian sociopolitical history.
