The 1000 Dram coin was issued in 1994 as part of a commemorative series celebrating the Third Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the transition to the national currency, the dram, the Armenian government utilized commemorative coinage to establish national identity and honor significant historical and cultural milestones during a period of economic transition.
The design of this specific issue typically features thematic imagery relevant to Armenia’s heritage, often incorporating intricate iconography that reflects the nation's ancient history and its sovereign status. These coins were minted primarily for collectors and commemorative purposes rather than for wide circulation, serving as both a legal tender token and a decorative artifact of post-Soviet numismatic history.
