Where it came from
The 2015 Canadian five-cent coin featuring the two maple leaves design belongs to a commemorative series released by the Royal Canadian Mint. This specific motif was originally introduced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag, which transitioned to the iconic red and white maple leaf design in 1965. The coin serves as a tribute to national identity, echoing the design elements that have historically defined Canadian currency and patriotic symbols.
The design features two maple leaves, a nod to the historical 1965 commemorative issue. It was produced for circulation to ensure that the anniversary of the flag was accessible to the general public. As a standard base-metal coin, it reflects the Royal Canadian Mint's commitment to marking significant milestones in Canadian history through coinage that remains in daily use, maintaining a balance between numismatic commemoration and practical economic utility.
