Where it came from
The 2023 25 Dollar Whale Shark gold bullion coin is part of the Australian Sea Life series produced by the Perth Mint. Released as a legal tender coin, it celebrates the biodiversity of Australia’s marine ecosystems, specifically focusing on the whale shark, the world’s largest fish species. This bullion series is minted in .9999 fine gold, catering to both precious metal investors and those interested in numismatic wildlife series.
The coin features the sixth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, which was standard for Commonwealth coinage during the transition period following the monarch's passing. The reverse design showcases the whale shark, emphasizing the mint’s high-relief or detailed engraving standards. It was received by the market as a refined addition to the Perth Mint’s ongoing commitment to high-purity gold commemorative currency, noted for its aesthetic balance between scientific accuracy and bullion-grade quality.
