Where it came from
The 2017 Sacrifice Medal 20-dollar coin was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to honor the members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have been wounded or killed in the line of duty. This commemorative piece features a design inspired by the official Sacrifice Medal, which was established by the Canadian government in 2008 to provide formal recognition for the ultimate sacrifices made by military personnel. The coin serves as a numismatic tribute to the courage and resilience of those serving in the military, reflecting the nation's gratitude.
The design was crafted to mirror the aesthetic of the original military decoration, incorporating the symbolic imagery of the Sacrifice Medal's obverse. It features a depiction of the figure of Victory, representing the spirit of the fallen, alongside the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse. Through its composition and artistic execution, the coin maintains the dignity associated with the military award it commemorates, serving as a solemn collector's item that highlights the legacy of Canadian service and sacrifice.
