25 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Chewbacca)

Released in 2017 by the New Zealand Mint on behalf of the island nation of Niue, this coin was part of an officially licensed Star Wars bullion and collectible series. Minted to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the original 1977 film, the coin captures the cultural legacy of the Star Wars franchise and its enduring impact on global popular culture. The use of Niue as the issuing authority is a common practice for thematic numismatic releases, allowing the mint to produce legal tender coins featuring diverse pop-culture iconography.

The design features a high-relief, colorized depiction of the Wookiee warrior Chewbacca, rendered with significant attention to his signature bandolier and iconic fur texture. The artistry focuses on balancing the realistic aesthetic of the film character with the refined standards of modern minting techniques. Upon its release, the coin was well-received by collectors of both precious metals and science fiction memorabilia, serving as a prominent example of how traditional numismatics have increasingly pivoted toward fan-based collectibles in the twenty-first century.
