Where it came from
The 3 Euro shark coin was released by the Austrian Mint in 2018 as the third installment in their popular 'Coloring the Creatures of the Deep' series. This series was designed to showcase the diverse marine life of the world's oceans while experimenting with innovative minting techniques, specifically the use of glowing elements and vibrant, semi-transparent color application that allowed the coin to react to ultraviolet light.
The design was crafted by the Austrian Mint's master engravers, who aimed to create a realistic depiction of a shark that seemed to glide through the water. Upon its release, the coin was well-received by collectors for its unique aesthetic and its educational approach to numismatics, effectively blending traditional metal craftsmanship with modern graphic design to create a visually striking addition to the series.
