5 Cents (In the name of George V; Voyageur)

The Canadian five-cent coin, colloquially known as the nickel, underwent a significant design shift in 1937, moving away from the traditional beaver to the iconic image of a schooner. This design, intended to honor Canada's maritime heritage and the historic Bluenose vessel, was created by sculptor Emanuel Hahn. By 2010, the coin had become a staple of Canadian currency, serving as a functional representation of the nation's history while transitioning through various metallurgical compositions over the decades.

The 2010 version of the coin continues the legacy of Hahn's original maritime imagery while featuring the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, these coins were struck for general circulation and reflect the standard aesthetic of Canadian coinage in the early 21st century. While this specific year of issue is primarily utilitarian, it remains a tangible link to the long-standing tradition of the Voyageur design, which has defined the denomination for the majority of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
