While the national side remains consistent with the original 2002 design—featuring the Secession Building in Vienna to represent the birth of Art Nouveau and the transition to a modern aesthetic in Austrian art—this specific iteration adheres to the updated common side map. This revised map was mandated to include non-Eurozone member states, reflecting the political expansion of the Union across the continent.

The coin's national side was designed by Josef Kaiser, who sought to celebrate Austria's architectural history through the lens of the Viennese Secession.
