50 Pounds - Charles III (D-Day; Silver 10oz.)

Issued by Jersey in 2024, this fifty-pound coin commemorates the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Struck in ten ounces of fine silver, the piece serves as a formal numismatic tribute to Operation Overlord and the allied forces that initiated the liberation of Normandy in June 1944. Its release aligns with the international commemorations marking the eight decades since the pivotal event, reflecting the historical significance held by the Channel Islands, which were occupied by German forces during the conflict.

The design features the official portrait of King Charles III on the obverse, a standard for modern coinage from the British Crown Dependencies. The reverse side utilizes intricate relief work to depict themes associated with the D-Day landings, often incorporating military motifs such as landing craft, soldiers, or symbolic iconography of the era. Produced as a high-weight collector’s item, the coin is aimed at those focusing on military history and Commonwealth numismatics, emphasizing craftsmanship intended to evoke the solemnity of the wartime anniversary.
