Action Comics Weekly #614

Action Comics Weekly #614, published in 1988, represents a transitional moment in DC Comics' publication strategy. Following the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era, DC experimented with transforming its flagship title, Action Comics, into an anthology format. This shift was intended to sustain a weekly publication schedule that featured ongoing serialized stories, moving away from the traditional single-narrative focus that had defined the title since 1938.

The issue features multiple serialized segments, including the Green Lantern story written by James Owsley with art by M.D. Bright. The design and narrative direction reflected a broader industry movement in the late eighties toward more gritty, serialized storytelling. While the weekly experiment was ambitious, it faced logistical challenges and received mixed reactions from a reader base accustomed to the standard monthly format, eventually leading the title to return to its traditional monthly monthly structure.
