Where it came from
The Colección Genios del Humor was a Spanish comic book series published by Editorial Bruguera during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Issue number 5, released as part of this curated collection, was designed to showcase the work of Francisco Ibáñez, one of the most prolific and influential figures in Spanish humor comics. The series aimed to provide readers with affordable, anthology-style volumes that compiled the best stories from his iconic characters, such as Mortadelo y Filemón, within a uniform and recognizable hardcover format.
The editorial vision behind these volumes was to transition the status of Spanish comics from disposable weekly magazines to collectible library editions. By highlighting the work of artists like Ibáñez, Bruguera sought to institutionalize the legacy of the Escuela Bruguera. The aesthetic design focused on clear, vibrant cover art that served as a visual gateway to the slapstick, fast-paced narratives contained within, and the series was widely received as a definitive retrospective for fans of the golden age of Spanish humor.
