Colección Genios del Humor #4

The Colección Genios del Humor series was a landmark publishing initiative launched in Spain during the 1970s, designed to preserve and celebrate the golden age of Spanish comic strips. The series focused on gathering the works of legendary cartoonists whose characters defined the editorial identity of magazines like TBO, Pulgarcito, and DDT. By compiling these scattered strips into thematic, hardbound or trade volumes, publishers aimed to provide a definitive repository for readers who grew up with the humor of the mid-20th century.

Issue number 4 of this series is dedicated to the prolific and iconic cartoonist José Escobar, the creator of characters such as Zipi y Zape. Escobar’s style was characterized by a distinct, expressive line and a mastery of slapstick timing that defined the sensibilities of generations of Spanish youth. This volume was curated to showcase the evolution of his visual storytelling, receiving critical acclaim for its editorial effort in elevating popular comic humor to the status of a preserved cultural treasure.
