Where it came from
The 'Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft' series emerged as a staple of the German comic market, published by Ehapa Verlag to provide fans with a more substantial reading experience than the standard weekly Donald Duck comics. Issue 135, released in the late 1980s, serves as a quintessential example of the series' mission to curate a mix of classic Carl Barks stories and adventurous tales from international Disney creators, catering to a sophisticated audience of German-speaking readers who valued high-quality translations and consistent editorial care.
The design of these Sonderheft issues typically showcased iconic cover art that highlighted Donald Duck’s personality, often emphasizing his penchant for both bad luck and ambitious schemes. These booklets were purposefully crafted to be collector-friendly, utilizing a larger format than pocket-sized anthologies like the 'LTB'. The series was well-received for its archival approach, effectively solidifying the legendary status of Carl Barks in Germany while acting as a bridge between younger readers and the golden age of Disney comics.
