Where it came from
Die tollsten Geschichten von Donald Duck – Sonderheft, often abbreviated as DDSH, began its long-running publication history in 1965. Originally designed as a high-quality alternative to the standard weekly Mickey Mouse comics, the series focused specifically on the Duck family, favoring longer, more complex narratives. Issue #167 was part of the series' mid-1980s output, a period that cemented the publication's status as a staple of German-language Disney comics due to its careful selection of international material.
The content of these issues typically featured a curation of classic stories by legendary artists such as Carl Barks or Vicar, translated into German. The aesthetic was defined by the bold, clean lines of the Disney studio style and a distinct, smaller-format binding that made the issues highly portable and collectable. Because the editorial team emphasized reprinting the most beloved stories from the vast Disney archives, these issues were received by readers as essential reading for enthusiasts of the Duck universe, maintaining a dedicated following that persists today.
